Giants in Corduroy: a mentor’s quiet heroism
Giants in Corduroy is DannyHO’s most autobiographical texture: the story of a wayward student and the unconventional mentor who refused to give up on him, told from the far side of growing up.
“Static at the Door” is the first day, all defiance. “Red Ink Map” reframes every harsh correction as cartography — someone charting a way out on your behalf. “Jacket in the Rain” and “Dashboard Saints” hold the small sacrifices that read as nothing at sixteen and as everything at thirty.
The retrospective thesis lands gently: tough love was just love, wearing corduroy, doing its quiet heroic work on a kid who’d notice eventually.
